Mount Olive Cemetery was founded in 1886 by the Scandinavian Lutheran Society to serve the local farming communities in the Dunning area of, what was then, the far Northwest suburbs of Chicago. The area, at the time, was rich in the Scandinavian culture and work ethic as reflected in the countless memorials erected to the men and women who created the area and helped build the city.
