Collection: Irving Park Cemetery - Chicago
Irving Park Cemetery was built in an area that was prairie, farm, forest and largely undeveloped land on the outskirts of Chicago. The cemetery was built here because there was a need for a welcoming, non-denominational cemetery to serve the wider community. At the time, other cemeteries were strictly serving the Scandinavian, Greek, Jewish, Catholic and Mason communities.
Irving Park Cemetery was designed to follow the Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style of architecture. They embedded the cemetery within a beautiful prairie landscape. This gives families convenient access, yet surrounds them with a secluded atmosphere. The cemetery is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Downtown Chicago and the shores of Lake Michigan.
