East Hill Cemetery - Rushville

East Hill Cemetery, established in 1859 in Rushville, Indiana, is recognized as the county's first true "garden cemetery" and one of the earliest in the United States. Founded to provide a more aesthetic and respectful place for burials, it was designed by Leo Weltz, a skilled landscape gardener who had previously worked in Russia. The cemetery is noted for its park-like setting, featuring winding avenues and impressive monuments​.
