Collection: Fountain Park Cemetery - Winchester

Fountain Park, originally designed by Ashel Stone and donated to the city of Winchester in the 1800s, has been a landmark for over two centuries. Stone acquired the land from Christian Heaston, after whom the “old cemetery” is named, for about $4,000. Grateful for this generous contribution, Winchester officially designated the land as a burial ground in July 1880.

Soon after, the site gained popularity among local residents, leading to the development of a public park on the property. The park was equipped with various amenities, including a small pond, making it a valued community space for both leisure and remembrance.
