Collection: Glasgow Cemetery - Glasgow

The history of Glasgow's cemeteries reflects the evolving needs and priorities of the community over the years. The first burying ground, established in 1808, was located behind the Presbyterian Church at the corner of West Washington Street and Broadway. As the only religious institution in Glasgow during its early years, the church oversaw this modest cemetery, where graves were marked with field stones. Unfortunately, no comprehensive records of burials exist. When the church expanded to include an educational annex, the graves were relocated. A second burial site was later established on West Cherry Street, across from the former Happy Valley School. However, it never gained widespread use and eventually fell out of favor. The graves from this location were later moved to the newly created Municipal Cemetery.

The Glasgow Municipal Cemetery was officially established in 1875 when Clement Montague Depp sold 12 acres of land to the International Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge #
