Situated on fifty-eight acres on serene Lake George, Lakeside Cemetery was originally part of the homestead of George Tanner, an early Martin County settler for whom the lake is named. The first recorded burial here was in 1868. The Lakeside Cemetery Association was formally created in 1871.
