Collection: Memorial Cemetery - Fremont

A gentleman by the name of Mr. Byers of Kansas, purchased the land in 1931 from the estate of the Honorable Judge Samuel Maxwell. He obtained a charter to establish the Fremont Memorial Park, now known as Memorial Cemetery Association, Inc. The park at that time was at the northwest corner of the city of Fremont on Highway 30. The soundness of his plan and the care with which the park was designed is apparent when one considers that the country was in the Great Depression and there was a drought of the same period. In spite of these adversities, the cemetery prospered and its growth and development have been phenomenal since the first service on October 11, 1931.

The main focus in the cemetery is the Tower of Memories. This centrally located tower constructed of Indiana Limestone is the outstanding piece of architecture in the cemetery.
