Collection: Memorial Park Cemetery (Calvary Cemetery) - Columbia

Calvary Cemetery was established north of Memorial Park in 1929 as a burial ground for African Americans. In the 1940s, Memorial Park acquired Calvary Cemetery, and since then, the two have been treated as one entity. However, many death certificates still designate this section as Calvary Cemetery. Prior to the acquisition, all records for Calvary Cemetery were lost in a fire, resulting in numerous unmarked and unknown graves.
