Collection: Mesa City Cemetery - Mesa
The Mesa City Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona, is a historic burial site established in 1891, expanding from an earlier cemetery created in 1883 during a smallpox epidemic. Owned and managed by the City of Mesa, this cemetery is the final resting place for more than 42,000 individuals, including early settlers, community leaders, veterans, and others who shaped the city's history.
The cemetery features various sections, including a historic area dedicated to those who passed away during the Great Depression and were interred without permanent memorials. It also houses a special section for British and American fighter pilots who lost their lives in training accidents at Falcon Field during World War II. Over the years, the cemetery has been expanded to include newer areas, such as Rolling Meadows and the North View section, which accommodates infant burials and other specific needs.
