Collection: Oak Hill Cemetery - Minneapolis

Oak Hill Cemetery was founded in 1859 by Richfield pioneers. On or about February 1, 1859, a group of Richfield 'cittizens' met to organize an association, responding to their 'duty as well as our privilege to provide and set apart grounds for the final resting place of our dead,' to develop a 'Burying Ground.' Initially planned for Mr. Gillmore's land near Wood Lake, it was, on February 14, 1859, approved that land offered by Nelson Pratt and his brother David Pratt be chosen as the site of Oak Hill Cemetery.
