Collection: Port Mayaca Cemetery - Canal Point

Port Mayaca Memorial Gardens was formed as a result of the 1928 Hurricane that claimed the lives of many Glades residents. The cemetery houses a memorial to the hurricane victims as over 1,600 people were buried at Port Mayaca after the hurricane. The three cities of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay formed a Trust that operated the cemetery until 1992 when the City of Pahokee took total control and operation of the Memorial Gardens.

Port Mayaca Memorial Gardens is located in unincorporated Martin County on State Road 76. The location is an ideal place; it is tranquil, beautiful, and spacious and the opportunity for expansion has been secured through the recent purchase of additional land that will assure that the cemetery can offer interment space for many years to come.
