Salem Cemetery was founded in 1853. Reasons as to the origin of Salem Cemetery are not real clear. It seems as there was a disagreement between parishioners about a burial in Jerusalem Cemetery. When a compromise could not be reached, a group from Jerusalem acquired land across the road and started their own church named Salem. Not much is known about this congregation or the church buildings.
